Our Unique and Innovative Service
Therapeutic ADHD Coaching is a service unique to The Divergent Edge. You will find other services offering either ADHD Coaching, or Counselling – but you won’t find other services who have purposely developed a hybrid model which combines elements of both, tailored specifically to the needs of each client.
Therapeutic = psychotherapy & counselling
Many of our clients feel they have previously ‘failed’ at therapy. Or they have found it useful up to a point, particularly when their ADHD was unknown and unseen. Our clinicians understand how being neurodivergent requires a specific adaptation of traditional counselling approaches to be meaningful.
Neurodivergent-affirming counselling supports you to reflect on your life experiences and understand your story within the framework of neurodivergency. The stories we tell ourselves about who we are, and how we are worthy inform our behaviours. At times these are maladaptive and cause us pain. This therapeutic work can be both challenging, validating, and is ultimately healing.
Numerous clients have experienced difficulties with their mental health as a result of undiagnosed ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, feeling out of control and emotionally dysregulated. Many adults have experienced misdiagnosis in the past and are hesitant to re-engage with support for fear of being misunderstood.
ADHD impacts on health and wellbeing, as many people unknowingly attempt to self manage their ADHD through such means as overworking, staying relentlessly busy, through binge eating or using alcohol, simply to feel okay. There are also a host of co-occurring physical health conditions which are highly correlated to both ADHD and autism, which have a greater likelihood of presenting in adulthood relative to the extent of unmanaged stress. The mind body connection is strong, and our holistic approach encourages curiosity and deeper understanding of the interplay between physical health and emotional wellbeing.
Our therapeutic team uses a neurodivergent affirming approach which integrates a multimodal, flexible methodology. This draws from a variety of evidence based clinical influences, such as: acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion focused therapy, motivational interviewing, family systems theory, transactional analysis, interpersonal & psychodynamic therapy, anti-oppressive & feminist theory, and strengths based approach.
Coaching
Combining the benefits of counselling & coaching into a single service provides both efficiency and cost effectiveness. It is a thought-provoking and creative approach that is worked in partnership to achieve meaningful, person centred outcomes to develop understanding of how ADHD impacts on both regulation of emotion, executive function and wellbeing.
Our Therapeutic Coaches have a variety of professional backgrounds which allow them to purposefully integrate a person-centred therapeutic relationship with coaching strategies to support you to refine your goals, increase your self knowledge and enhance a positive self-identity.
Therapeutic ADHD Coaches can support you in a huge variety of ways:
