ADHD Counselling
Telehealth support for adults Australia-wide.
Our clinicians are neurodivergent and bring lived experience alongside clinical depth to work with burnout, shame, trauma, identity, and the emotional load that builds over years of trying to keep up.
We adapt evidence-based therapy to how ADHD nervous systems process emotion, memory, and regulation. We work with the broader context of ADHD, from intersecting neurodivergence (Autism, 2E, sensory profiles…) to life factors (hormones, culture, sexuality, gendered expectations…) and more.
What Is ADHD
Counselling?
ADHD counselling is a therapeutic space to understand what’s been happening beneath the surface and why certain patterns keep repeating, even when you’re trying hard.
It supports adults to process lived experiences, work with trauma and burnout, strengthen emotional regulation, and rebuild self-trust in ways that respect a neurodivergent nervous system. Sessions can also help with relationships, boundaries, identity, and the long-term impact of masking, criticism, or feeling “too much” for other people’s systems.
You might come to counselling because you’re exhausted from holding it all together, stuck in shame loops after small mistakes, or finding that work, relationships, and daily life keep tipping into overwhelm.

What ADHD Counselling Helps With
ADHD rarely exists in isolation. Counselling supports the parts of life where ADHD overlaps with stress, identity, relationships, and long-term emotional load.
Burnout and running on empty
When you’ve been pushing through for so long that rest doesn’t even feel restorative. We help you unpack what’s driving the exhaustion and build ways to recover without dropping everything.
Identity and your story
Especially after a late diagnosis or new awareness. Counselling creates space to process relief, grief, and who you are beneath years of coping.
Emotional regulation
Big reactions, quick spikes, or sudden shutdowns can feel confusing and costly. Counselling supports you to notice patterns earlier and create steadier ways to respond, not just react.
Shame loops and harsh self-talk
The inner critic can get loud after mistakes, feedback, or “not keeping up”. We work with the stories you’ve been carrying and build self-trust without forcing fake positivity.
Relationships and communication
Misunderstandings, people-pleasing, conflict, or pulling away when things feel tense. We help you build clearer boundaries, safer repair, and communication that feels more like you.
Masking and the cost of looking “fine”
Being capable on the outside while struggling in private is draining. Counselling helps you unlearn survival habits that no longer serve you and find more sustainable ways to move through life.
Stress, overwhelm, and mental load
When everything feels urgent and your brain never really powers down. We work with the build-up, the triggers, and practical ways to reduce the load so your nervous system gets a break.
Why Our Counselling
Is Different
Many people come to us after support that didn’t quite land.
Sometimes it felt too clinical, focused on diagnosis or symptoms without truly understanding your lived experience. Other times, it skimmed the surface, without holding what you were carrying.
If you’re unsure what you need, reach out, and we’ll help you work it out.
Therapeutic ADHD Counselling and Coaching
Unique to The Divergent Edge, we offer Therapeutic ADHD Coaching, a hybrid model that combines counselling and coaching within one service. This allows sessions to move between practical strategy and deeper therapeutic work, depending on what you need in the moment. Counselling remains its own focused service for those wanting therapeutic depth without the coaching component.
You Don’t Need a Formal Diagnosis
You don’t need an ADHD assessment or confirmed diagnosis to start counselling. If ADHD traits resonate and you want support to make sense of your experience, you’re welcome here.
Intersectionality, Held With Care
ADHD often overlaps with other layers like autism traits, anxiety, PMDD/perimenopause shifts, LGBTQ+ experience, trauma, and identity. We work with the full context, without reducing you to a single explanation.
Qualified and Accredited
Counselling is provided by Accredited Social Workers, Counsellors, and Psychologists, grounded in evidence-based therapy adapted for neurodivergent brains.
Neurodivergent-Led
We’re neurodivergent-led, and our clinicians bring lived experience alongside clinical skill.
Accessible, Online, Nationwide (Including Funding Support)
Telehealth for adults Australia-wide. Medicare rebates may be available with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), and counselling may also be accessed through NDIS funding where applicable. We can help you understand your options.
What Changes When Support Fits
ADHD is rarely the only thing shaping someone’s experience. Many people also live with other neurodivergent and life experiences such as autism or AuDHD, trauma, PMDD or perimenopause, LGBTQ+ identity, giftedness, and burnout. We take these layers into account, without reducing people to categories.

If ADHD counselling isn’t the only support you’re looking for, these services may be a good fit alongside therapy or as a next step.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis to start counselling?
No. You don’t need a diagnosis or an ADHD assessment to begin. If Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder traits resonate, counselling can still help you make sense of patterns, stress, identity, and emotional load while you decide what you want next.
Is ADHD counselling different from therapeutic coaching?
Yes. Counselling is therapy-led support for emotions, identity, trauma, burnout, and relationship patterns. Therapeutic coaching is a hybrid ADHD service (unique to The Divergent Edge) that can move between therapy and strategy in the same session. If you’re not sure which fits, we’ll help you choose.
What happens in an ADHD counselling session?
You’ll work with our neurodivergent practitioners who adapt evidence-based approaches to neurodivergent nervous systems. Depending on your goals, this might include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, and emotion-focused work.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. This is a Telehealth Service for adults Australia-wide. Telehealth sessions are online, private, and structured to reduce overwhelm.
What kinds of challenges can counselling help with?
Things like burnout, overwhelm, emotional regulation, shame loops, masking, relationship stress, work pressure, and rejection sensitivity dysphoria. The focus is on understanding what’s driving the pattern and building safer ways to respond.
Can you help if I’m not sure it’s ADHD?
Yes. Counselling can support you while you’re figuring things out. If you decide you want more clarity, we can talk through ADHD screening and assessment pathways, including whether formal documentation would help with work, study, or supports.
