Professional bio
Dani found her feet initially in the NGO sector, where she learned how to facilitate change both interpersonally and strategically. Through her early career she embedded her passion for social justice to stay connected to purpose; to empower and build capacity in others.
Thriving on diversity and being challenged (to keep boredom at bay) she has worked in a variety of roles; including case management, counselling, training and adult education, clinical supervision, service delivery management, and statewide clinical leadership roles. She has significant expertise in practice development, recruitment, leading teams and organisational strategy. She has worked in NGO, government, health, education, corporate and private practice contexts
Dani has come to understand her strengths in terms of strategic, big picture thinking, and abstract reasoning, which influence both her clinical skills in person centred, holistic assessment, and moving into the space of entrepreneurship and business development. Pulling all the pieces together was complicated by her continued experience of not fitting in with more normative expectations and structures, and continues on her own personal journey understanding her own life as a gifted adult with ADHD, with its associated intensities and challenges!
She is passionate about advocating for the benefits of neurodiversity in the workplace, and reducing the incidence of missed diagnosis, and misdiagnosis. She may well jump on her soapbox and rant about the imperative of moving away from disordered and disabling labels of difference and instead adopting an affirming, strengths-based, empowering approach as a guiding perspective.
Dani is passionate about the development of psychologically safe working environments and believes no one should have to hide their neurodivergence in the workplace.
Building The Divergent Edge is providing a welcome opportunity to utilise her brain’s tendency to experience everything all at once! It is both a calling and a company, grounded in a socially just, rebellious energy. Just wait for the t-shirts..
Personal overshare
Dani was diagnosed with ADHD (predominantly hyperactive type) in her 40’s. This information altered her perspective fundamentally on how she understands herself, her life, her children, and her purpose. She can spot an ADHDer across a crowded room (like a 6th sense) and also via text message (a largely unhelpful skill).
She is currently trying to balance the growing needs of the business with the needs of her three neurodivergent kids, while also attempting to carve out some time for rest, fun and some sort of social life.
Her meditation is boxing, and her chill out music is heavy (it’s an equilibrium thing). She accepts that she is not and never will be an earth mother who likes craft, nor is she a domestic goddess who knows how to organise her pantry, and is currently accepting applications for anyone with skills resembling Mary Poppins.
She is still learning how to relax….
